The site of two famous Civil War Battles, the First Battle of Bull Run and the Second Battle of Bull Run, Manassas National Battlefield Park preserves the grounds and the memories of these two significant clashes. Fought on July 21, 1861 and August 28-30, 1862, respectively, the former is regarded as the first major land battle of the Civil War, where Confederate General Thomas Jackson got his nickname as "Stonewall Jackson" for standing his ground despite long odds. Nowadays, visitors can tour the sites of the battles, visit an interpretive center and museum that explains the causes of the war and the outcomes of the battles and see antique uniforms and memorabilia from Bull Run and the Civil War. The park is northwest of Manassas just north of I-66, about 30 miles away from Washington, D.C.
Open daily dawn - dusk.
Entry fee (3 day pass): Adults $3; Children 15 and under are free.
